QA Hospital

QA Hospital Children’s Emergency Department Project

A new emergency department is being built at QA Hospital in Portsmouth. As part of the development a brand new larger made for purpose children’s emergency unit is being established.

The existing unit is incredibly child friendly with artwork which has been built up over several years on almost every wall. The artwork has been carefully selected to help create a relaxing child friendly environment.

The NHS will pay for all medical equipment for the new unit, but not the artwork and play equipment, that play such a huge part in the successful treatment of children taken to the unit.

A huge part of treating children successfully is to relax them when they come into the unit. Often when children are hospitalised, they are scared, in pain and traumatised. If you can relax a child in that situation, that child can be treated easier and accordingly go on to have much better results.

Our project is to pay for the printing and installation of new artwork by local artist Lizzie Cornelius which will play a vital part in building a child friendly environment. Lizzie has donated her artwork for free.

The Children’s Emergency unit at QA currently treats 2000 children each month and this will rise to over 2200 when the new unit opens. It caters for children from Hedge End to Emsworth and as far as Bordon.

Please help us, to help the wonderful team of doctors, nurses and play specialists at QA create better outcomes for children in our area that are probably having one of the worst days of their lives.

We are working with other Rotary clubs in our area to raise the funds needed.  A number of events have been set up such as collections at Tesco Havant, Waitrose Havant, Tesco Fratton. In addition, a Call my Bluff evening is being held by Fareham Rotary on the 16th October at The Village Hotel.
