Book Donation to Havant Home Start

Havant Rotary has recently completed  a literacy project  with four local primary schools.  As part of the project, we were able to buy some books for Havant Home Start in Leigh Park.

There are a variety of books for 0-11. They cover story books, picture books for babies to older children. We also have non fiction books that explore what might be more difficult subjects for children who have endured a difficult pandemic and are now finding their feet again.

Some of the books can be loaned or given to children, and others taken by volunteers when they go on their visits to read with them. Others will be used at the centre by parents, volunteers and read to the children and used to enable discussions about topics which can be difficult.

Children can’t really access education until they can read as so much these days is text and content driven. When children get to school they can find it difficult to progress if they can’t access books.

This donation from Havant Rotary is aimed at helping little ones from birth to school- a child is never to young to be shown a book!

A wise man once said ‘Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.’’ Nelson Mandela. It starts with the gift of reading and having books to read.

Let’s hope the children enjoy the books.
